Itinerary
DAY 1: MAI CHAU
HANOI INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL WITH FAST TRACK SERVICE AND TRANSFER TO MAI CHAU
Upon touchdown at Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport, you will be met right at the airplane's arrival gate by friendly Fast Track Service staff. You will be whisked through immigration via the diplomatic lane, have your luggage retrieved and carried, and be escorted to your Hanoi host waiting for you in the Arrival Hall.
Today we're off to enjoy a hearty slice of rural Vietnam, travelling 135 kilometers west from Hanoi to Mai Chau district in Hoa Binh Province. This picturesque valley is home to the ethnic white Thai people (of Thai ancestry) who have built their traditional stilt-house villages within the mountainous and lush landscape for generations.
The day will begin by escaping the motorbike frenzy of Hanoi traffic to a fast highway that gently turns into windy country roads. After a leisurely drive with stops at great lookout points, we'll settle into our lodging in the Mai Chau valley.
DAY 2 - 4: MAI CHAU
DAYS AT LEISURE - AVANA RETREAT
Days at leisure to enjoy the mountainside retreat, its spa, pools and the surrounding White Thai villages of the Mai Chau valley.
DAY 5: MAI CHAU & HANOI
LAND TRANSFER - MAI CHAU TO HANOI
Duration: 4 hours
A late morning drive takes us back to Hanoi city.
DAY 6: HANOI - HANOI INSIDE OUT
Duration: 6 hours
Hanoi has been the Vietnamese capital since 1010 A.D so there are an endless amount of stories to be regaled from within the city's bustling alleyways and diverse quarters. Today, we'll turn Hanoi inside out as we immerse ourselves in these stories.
The must-sees of the Old Quarter are best explored in a cyclo: a bicycle-powered rickshaw driven from behind by a native Hanoian! Drift elegantly through the busy inner streets, taking in the hustle and bustle on all sides. You'll then be chauffeured on the back of a scooter by one of our experienced motorcycle drivers and visit the Temple of Literature, the Parisian boulevards of the French Quarter and, if you're up for it, Ho Chi Minh's Museum complex and the historic Ba Dinh Square.
The sightseeing will be complemented by two essential Vietnamese experiences: slurping on a bowl of Noodle Soup (Pho) and sipping on some traditional Vietnamese ice coffee (Cafe Sua Da), or even egg-coffee (Ca phe trung) as a unique and delicious drink that originated in Hanoi.
DAY 6: HANOI - EVENING EAT, DRINK VIETNAM
Duration: 4 hours
Grilled meats, fresh seafood, tangy salads and a cornucopia of sesame, garlic, cilantro, chilli and lime are just the starting point for one of Asia's darling cuisines. Tonight we'll enjoy an introduction to Vietnamese food and drink, the basic ingredients, various styles, and of course lots of sampling. Starting out on foot from our hotel in the old quarter, we'll make our way to one of the many fresh markets of Hanoi for a visual and sensory overload of produce. Sampling is key, and we'll make a couple of stops at cafes to experience a few bedrock culinary experiences: spring rolls, salad wraps and, of course, Vietnamese coffee. The night reaches its peak with a unique local experience - sipping "bia hoi" on the pavement, surrounded by the authenticity of local encounters. Get ready for a night that paints Hanoi in unforgettable hues of flavor and fun!
DAY 7: HANOI - QUANG BA FLOWER MARKET AND EARLY MORNING STROLL
Duration: 1 hour
Wake up to the fragrant allure of fresh blooms as the city still sleeps. This morning, we set off for an authentic local experience at Quang Ba Flower Market, Hanoi's largest hub for fresh flowers. After a brief transfer, we'll arrive at the market, where vibrant colors and the delicate scent of blossoms fill the air. As we leisurely stroll through the bustling stalls, you'll witness the intricate beauty of the flowers up close, learn the stories behind this thriving trade, and immerse yourself in the energy of a city awakening to the day.
After the market, we will escort you back to the hotel where you can enjoy breakfast and freshen up for today's big adventure.
ADVENTURE TO BAT TRANG CERAMIC VILLAGE
Duration: 6 hours 30 minutes
A short drive, in our private van, out of Hanoi over the Red River will take you to Bat Trang Ceramic Village. We will follow small hidden alleys to a local workshop to meet the craftspeople and learn how they make their unique products, from preparing the clay to shaping the items, painting them and firing them in the kiln. Later, we visit the red clay teapot homes and have time to dig deeper into the master's stories of creating his artwork collections. He created sophisticated tea sets in different sizes and forms, for example, pumpkin-shaped and lotus-shaped teapots, as well as bronze and silver-rimmed teapots.
Your adventure continues with a visit to a 100-year-old house displaying both French and Vietnamese architecture, whereby you will have your home-hosted meal with the house owners. Chat with the owners to understand more about their house, the village & especially how their lives have changed since the revolutionary Land Reform in Northern Vietnam in the mid-20th century. Visit Ceramic Market, and maybe purchase some unique gifts for friends and family.

DAY 10: HOI AN
SILK VILLAGE AND HOI AN OLD TOWN EXPLORATION
Duration: 12 hours 30 minutes
This morning, we will explore one of the key elements that helped shape Hoi An's legacy: silk. After a brief transfer, we'll arrive at the Silk Village, once the bustling "Silk Hub" of Quang Nam province. In its prime, this village was home to thousands of artisans who produced and exported exquisite silk to Europe and Asia. However, as the world's demand for traditional artisanal silk waned, the village's activity gradually faded.
Today, we'll take you on a fascinating journey back in time, where you'll discover the captivating stories behind silk. From witnessing the delicate process of nurturing silkworms, to observing the intricate task of extracting silk from the cocoons and weaving it into fine fabric, you'll not only see the art in action but also have the opportunity to try your hand at it.
Afterward, we will drive to the old town of Hoi An for more adventure. With its historical buildings and blend of European and Asian architectural styles, there's plenty to admire during a leisurely walk through the ancient town. Set out on a walking exploration of interesting nooks and crannies, observe the locals as they work during the day, and enjoy a must-have Vietnamese treat: ca phe sua da. We will visit significant grounds, uncover the history woven into Hoi An's fabric (known as the currency of the Silk Road age), and enjoy lunch among the locals.
DAY 11: HOI AN - EVERYTHING HOI AN
Duration: 6 hours
Hoi An is one of Vietnam's most elegant and historic towns. A major maritime trading center for centuries, Hoi An hosts beautifully preserved and diverse architecture, delicious food, and lots of opportunities for exploration. Today, we will bask in a little bit of everything Hoi An has to offer.
For early risers, a visit to the fish and central markets is like going back in time when life in Hoi An centered around these markets. Watch locals preparing for their day, then set out on a walking exploration of interesting nooks and crannies. Next, hop on a bike and head further afield to the countryside where, after enjoying the Vietnamese rural scenery along the way, we'll stop at the village of Go Noi. Here we'll get an insight into the life of farming communities (growing incredible organic vegetables), receive a cooking demonstration and dig into a local gourmet feast.
The afternoon is clear for shopping, beach time or just taking in the atmosphere in this charming town.
DAY 12: HOI AN
MY SON, A TASTE OF ANCIENT VIETNAM
Duration: 6 hours 30 minutes
Fifty kilometers from Hoi An town you'll find the ancient ruins of My Son, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is a must-see for any visit to Central Vietnam. Once the heart of the powerful Champa Empire, whose rulers built impressive Hindu temples between the 4th and 13th centuries, My Son Sanctuary is now a mystery-shrouded collection of abandoned temple structures nearly swallowed by the surrounding jungle and nearly destroyed by carpet bombing during the Vietnam War. Fascinating history to say the least!
On today's outing, getting to My Son will be half the fun! Mounted on motorbikes driven by professionals we'll take the back roads, which in Vietnam means small concrete paths amongst the rice paddies, villages and local shrines. As we navigate the labyrinth of back country roads on an exhilarating journey to the ruins, we'll get a feel for what ""off the tourist path"" really means.
After taking time to explore My Son, we will head back to the city via motorboat on a cruise down the Thu Bon River. Reflect on the morning's adventure as we observe country life passing by along the river.
DAY 13: PHU YEN
REUNIFICATION TRAIN RIDE FROM DANANG TO QUY NHON
Duration: 6 hours
After breakfast, we will gather in the hotel lobby in the early morning to proceed to Danang station. The journey from your hotel to Danang train station will take approximately 45 minutes. A vital lifeline in times of war and peace, Vietnam's 1000-mile-long North-South Railway offers a comprehensive experience of its stunning beauty, diverse people, and rich history. The train journey provides a memorable experience, with guests traversing one of the most picturesque railway routes, as endorsed by Michael Portillo in his amazing video.
Upon arrival, transfer to Zannier Hotels Bai San Ho.
DAY 14 - 15: PHU YEN
FREE DAYS AT LEISURE AT BAI SAN HO
Free days to relax at the beach - private plunge pool, white-sand beach, water sports, fitness sessions and spa treatments at the resort's leisure.
DAY 16: SAIGON - FLIGHT TO HO CHI MINH CITY & THE HEARTBEAT OF SAIGON
Duration: 4 hours 30 minutes
Morning flight from Qui Nhon (Phu Cat Airport) to Ho Chi Minh City (approx. 1 hour 25 minutes).
Welcome to Southern Vietnam and to the country's energetic commercial heart! Upon touchdown in Saigon (officially known as Ho Chi Minh City) collect your luggage and make your way to the arrivals hall where your friendly Saigon host will be waiting for you.
HCMC (Saigon) is an eclectic mix of old and new architecture, history and culture. It is an energetic and exciting city with pockets of calm to escape the hustle and bustle of the main streets whenever needed. Feel the heartbeat of Vietnamese life in this amazing city whilst hanging out with your host. Everything happens over coffee in Vietnam, so let's begin there and decide where to go before diving into exploring the alleyways, parks, markets and historical highlights.
DAY 17: SAIGON
SAIGON'S CHINATOWN AND HISTORICAL DISTRICT
Duration: 7 hours 30 minutes
Today we'll hit the town by three-wheeled cyclo. A vintage and slow-paced way of getting around, we'll head to Cholon, Saigon's Chinatown, where we can roam around the old spice district as well as the colorful and sensory Binh Tay Market. We will also get pedaled to Giac Lam Pagoda, one of the city's oldest Buddhist temples.
The morning ride through markets will no doubt leave us building up an appetite. Lunch will be one of the most classic and ubiquitous of Vietnamese dishes: pho noodle soup. Saigon is considered by many to have the best pho in Vietnam. We'll let you be the judge before enjoying a coffee in the park and continuing our exploration of Ben Thanh Market and Saigon's historical district on foot in the afternoon.
SAIGON EVENING SCOOTER ADVENTURE
Duration: 4 hours
As the sun sets, enjoy an evening scooter adventure. We'll take Saigon by storm and experience the amazing energy and movement of the southern capital via a colorful scooter journey (you'll be chauffeured by professionals!). We'll whizz around the historical district taking in all the sights, sounds and smells of a city relaxing after work. Street-side food is a delicious culinary adventure in and of itself and provides a perfect view of Saigon's motorcycle medley. If you fancy a nightcap, we can head up to one of Saigon's rooftop bars and observe the city's frenzy from above.
DAY 18: VIETNAM - SEE YOU AGAIN!
