This evening, head out with your guide to explore one of the charming local neighborhoods of Hanoi.
Delve into the area's rich history while savoring traditional Vietnamese treats and getting a glimpse into the daily lives of Hanoians. Cap off the evening with mouth-watering authentic Vietnamese cuisine at one of the city's excellent restaurants.
DAY 3: HANOI
HIGHLIGHTS OF HANOI, PRIVATE EXPERIENCE
Duration: 6 hours
Today you'll explore Hanoi with your private guide. Hanoi has been the Vietnamese capital since 1010 A.D., and there are endless stories to be regaled from within the city's bustling alleyways and diverse quarters.
The must-sees of the Old Quarter are best explored in a cyclo, a bicycle-powered rickshaw driven from behind by a native Hanoian. Drift through the busy inner streets, taking in the hustle and bustle on all sides.
You'll then be chauffeured on the back of a motorbike by an experienced driver and visit the Temple of Literature, the Parisian boulevards of the French Quarter and, if you're up for it, Ho Chi Minh's Museum complex and the historic Ba Dinh Square.
Your sightseeing will be complemented by two essential Vietnamese experiences: slurping on a bowl of pho (noodle soup) and sipping on some traditional cafe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee).
Lunch and coffee are included today.
Enjoy your evening at leisure.
DAY 4: HANOI
PRIVATE FOOD TOUR & WATER PUPPET THEATER EXPERIENCE
Duration: 5 hours 30 minutes
Today you'll enjoy an introduction to Vietnamese cuisine, learning the basic ingredients found in Vietnam's food and drink with of course plenty of opportunities to sample along the way.
It won't take long to find that grilled ingredients, tangy salads and a cornucopia of sesame, garlic, cilantro, chili, and lime are just the starting point for one of Asia's most delicious cuisines.
Starting out on foot from your hotel in the Old Quarter, you'll make your way to a vibrant fresh market for a visual and sensory overload of produce. Sampling is key, and you'll make a couple of stops at cafes to taste a few quintessential Vietnamese staples, like spring rolls, salad wraps, and of course, Vietnamese coffee.
Continue your stroll as you make your way to lunch which will be a treat of local specialties at a beloved local eatery. You'll no doubt have a happy and full stomach going into the afternoon!
Your food and drinks are included today.
Afterwards, you'll experience a distinctly Vietnamese artform: Water Puppet Theater. In recent years, this artform has only been available in large theatres, however, a local family of artisans has been perfecting the craft for three generations and have re-designed a floor of their house as a mini theatre where you will have tea and a chat, followed by a private 30-minute puppet performance. This is an authentic way to take part in supporting local artists trying to preserve a craft.
You'll have the rest of the day free to continue exploring on your own.
DAY 5: HALONG BAY
TRAVEL FROM HANOI TO HALONG BAY & PRIVATE CHARTER
Duration: private transfer of approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, then afternoon and evening aboard
In the morning, you will be picked up at your accommodations for the private transfer from Hanoi to Halong Bay. Drive time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
No trip to Northern Vietnam is complete without a visit to Halong Bay, a remarkable seascape of lush, rainforest-clad limestone islands jutting out of the surrounding emerald water as far as the eye can see. And there is no better way to experience this UNESCO World Heritage Site than by sailing through the calm, scenic waters aboard a private charter tailored to your personal journey.
Upon arrival, your boat crew will welcome you aboard the ship and set sail into the bay. Situate yourself on the deck and take in the never ending parade of karsts, caves, and coves passing by on all sides.
In the afternoon, you'll explore a couple of the area's deep caves before an optional sunset kayak paddle, followed by relaxation and dinner.
DAY 6: HALONG BAY
EXPLORE HALONG BAY
Spend the day taking in the magnificent limestone features and emerald waters. Explore hidden lagoons and inlets via kayak, followed by a visit to a remote floating fishing village that has retained much of its traditional fishing culture.

If the water is not too cold, you may wish to go for a swim this afternoon before relaxing back on deck to soak up the atmosphere and feast on another delicious dinner.
DAY 7: HOI AN
TRAVEL FROM HALONG BAY TO HOI AN
Wake up early to catch the sunrise over Halong Bay before heading back to shore to continue your adventure on land.
